(Warning - long post! Hey I've got alot to update you on!)

Hey everyone! Well, the holidays are official upon us. With Thanksgiving just a couple days away, the hustle and bustle of the season begins. I am actually in the spirit this season! I already made a new swag for our front door and its already up. Probably will put up our tree and other decorations on Friday.

What's that you say? No Black Friday shopping? NO WAY! I really don't enjoy the crowds and the non-existent deals.  I have gone a couple of times only to be disappointed when the 1 thing I wanted was already gone, like 5 minutes after the doors opened.

SOOOOOO------ how about I offer you some deals that won't be gone 5 minutes after 5am? Like that? I know I do!!

Thanksgiving Weekend Flyer

I will have a special that runs Thursday through Sunday that are really great deals for reprints from your session. The only catch is that they cannot be used in conjunction with each other. You knew there's be fine print didn't you?

Kari Smith Photography Black Friday special will run from 12:01 am  to 11:59 pm Friday. These deals will be good for future sessions that take place in 2011. Think of it as advanced investing :)

Another What to Wear

Layers are fun and add great textural interest to pictures. Solid colors work well, but feel free to layer them up with plaids or stripes. I like darker, richer colors, instead of whites and khaki's, especially for fall. Bring a couple options & I can help you decide.
I usually suggest to find one common color that is present in everybody's clothing choices, then coordinate from there. Sherwin williams paint store has some great color combos - http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/paint_colors/ideas/palettes/todays_colors/rooted/index.jsp
Those colors are rich and very appropriate for fall. They have a couple other combos too. Paint swatch combos are an awesome starting point for what looks good together.

Don't stress - most any thing you pick will look great. Try to avoid logos and printed shirts - they can really "date" a picture.

Wow - Kari Smith Photography - Freetown, Indiana Photographer

Well, that sure was a long weekend lol!!! I am covered over in editing and orders right now, which is awesome!! Been doing a lot of family time too, my heart is being pulled to the ones I love pretty strongly. Celebrating the birth of my nephew last week has been wonderful for all of us. I was able to photograph him today at 6 days old! What a doll!!!

I will resume my regularly scheduled blogging tomorrow!

Can you believe its November Already? - Kari Smith Photography - Freetown, Indiana Newborn Photographer

Wow!! Where has this year gone? Soon we will be celebrating a whole new year to make memories and be thankful for all that we have been blessed with in life. The craze on Facebook this month is to list something you are thankful for everyday. I am thankful for so many things in my life! God has blessed me with a beautiful daughter, a loving husband, a wonderful family that supports me in all my endeavors. Really what more could a person ask for? (well...... lol!)

This time of year I try to reflect on all the joys and even heartaches that have been brought to my family over the course of the year. We have lost loved ones, struggled with conceiving a baby, and had financial hardship. But even as I sit here typing those heartaches out, I struggle to find times when the bad really outdid the good! We have all been blessed with good health, we have a roof over our heads, OVERFLOWING love for each other! My faith has brought me through the rough times and soared me in times of joy. Our God is a wonderful loving God! Today He is blessing us with another miracle of life!

I am writing this post a day ahead of time (its really Thursday) :), because as I speak my sister is at the hospital in labor preparing to deliver her second baby - a little boy! I can not wait to see him - which is actually where I will be in the morning! My sis's daughter has nicknamed her little brother "Mater"  - yes from Cars fame. I'm sure his nickname will stick, she has nicknamed all of us and even though she knows our real names, she calls us by her chosen nickname for each of us. So as baby Mater enters the world today, even though Mamoo (thats me) and Tayjum won't be there to greet him, you better believe we will be there bright and early in the morning!

We have tentatively set a couple days as possibilities next week to take his newborn pictures. You have no idea how excited I am for those!!! I have been prepping for weeks now. I have knitted blankets and hats (still have one on the needles), shopped for bowls and other cool props, created new backdrops, and scoured stalked the amazing talents of Carrie Sandoval, Beth Jansen, and Kelley Ryden for inspiration. If you have time, check these ladies out - you will be in love! Even if you can't see the beauty of their photography, the amazing-ness of the tiny beings they have captured will melt your heart!!

This weeks Before and After is an image of my daughter that I took as part of her pictures for her 3rd birthday. This session was an urban setting in downtown Columbus, Indiana. Columbus has so many cool little places tucked away in its alleys. Love going there and discovering new places to shoot.

I was at my local home improvement store the other day and I was inspired by their paint swatch "go-togethers." The colors were amazing together - and who would have ever thought that some colors would go together? Next time you happen to be at the paint store or improvement store, go check out their swatches, you never know how you may be inspired to put together an outfit for your self or your family.

So, just this morning over on my Facebook fan page, I announced the Countdown to Christmas sale. Each week starting next week and continuing for 5 weeks, I will be having a sale on different prints and products that I offer. Each week will be different and I will announce the sale on Mondays of each week.

Miss M - Kari Smith Photography - Brown County, Indiana Childrens Photographer

Sweet little Miss M was such a little stinker for her session. She would only smile when I put down my camera. At 7 months, she already knew what my plan was :). I still managed to get some sweet pictures of her.

The layout shown is for the custom accordion album I offer to each of my clients after each of their sessions. They are a great gift for grandparents and a really cool and hip brag book for mommies.
